The diary entry below is a written letter than a young South Korean soldier wrote to his mother. We know this because he writes in the beginning: "Dear Mom,." From his letter the audience can see that this battle is the first time he has been to war. He received no training prior to this event. The descriptions that he provides, describing the circumstances of the battle and what he sees each days, shows how astonished and scared he feels. He cannot believe that he has killed so many people, he does not like war. The sad reality is that this letter was found in the pocket of his uniform by men who recovered dead bodies to honor them at a memorial. The young soldier who wrote this letter to his mother died in battle.
This letter shows many things:
-nobody wants to go to war
-the South Korean soldiers received no training prior
-nobody wants to kill other people. He says "they are human, just like I am. We share the same blood."
